The top two floors of the Palazzo dei Veliti were redesigned to house office space, as was the floor formerly occupied by the departmental offices of the Carabinieri.
Work on this project also involved improving connections among the various structures of the museum complex. An elevator was added in a stair core, a load-bearing metal structure sheathed in sheets of bronze. A new glass-and-metal bridge now connects the top floor of the Palazzo dei Veliti with the first floor of the Uffizi Gallery.
Work in the building was carried out with the greatest respect for its dignified character, and additions were limited to the installation of a false ceiling containing lighting and HVAC systems.
