The project aimed to correctly interpret an appropriate urban and social role for this area, which serves as a kind of gateway to the town.
The commercial building is located along the northwest side of the complex such that the façade of the main entrance faces a traffic junction and new connecting road. As a result, the market serves as a crucial element for the area and is clearly recognizable to those headed toward Santa Maria a Monte from the expressway.
The main southeastern façade faces the parking area and defines the design by calling primary attention to the functions and amenities in the building’s interior.
A series of slender pillars support an awning that rises some nine meters in height and extends more than three meters from the profile of the façade, thus offering a protected walkway for pedestrian traffic that begins and ends with two structures at the corners of the building.
