In consideration of the human and historical value of the existing building, the priority of this project was to arrive at a mindful use of resources both in architectural and structural terms, a result achieved through careful restoration aimed principally at conservation and at halting to the deterioration of existing structures.
In addition to the restoration of the existing structure, the project called for the construction of a new shared-used building, including a conference space, auditorium, and a rest-and-relaxation area. The new space will be connected to the existing building through an additional “filter” or entranceway between the two main buildings.
